Regimental Flag presented to Colonel Scriver by a group of women of
Hemmingford on the 9th of may 1839. It was meant to commemorate the
participation of the Hemmingford Loyal Volunteers, a militia composed of local
men during the conflict, and their victory over the Patriote forces at the
Battle of Lacolle (7th of November 1838).
Hemmingford, in the Eastern
Townships region of modern day Quebec, was settled by United Empire Loyalists
following the US revolution and as such its inhabitants sided mostly with the
Council during the Patriote Uprising. The area is just across the border from
the US which is why the Hemmingford Loyal Volunteers were present at 2 battles (Lacolle
and Odelltown) where they joined British regulars and other militiamen to face
Robert Nelson and his Frères-Chasseurs.
It is currently held by the
Canadian Museum of Civilization.
